Sonya’s Garden 

     I have known Rizza for quite some time now. And thanks to SPI for that; a company may not give you enough challenge or fair compensation, but at times it certainly becomes a shelter for the greatest of friendships. We became super, mega, ultra close when we were still both copyediting articles for Elsevier Science. We were seatmates then, and we take pride in claiming to be each other’s best seatmate. Binubusog nya ako ng bigbang at clover, binubusog ko sya ng kwento. It was then that we were able to share about everything in our lives, from family to friends to boys, in between articles.

    Carlo has been a constant where Rizza is concerned. We are six in our group, and all of us are charming single girls then, except for Rizza; she is blessed to have found true love earlier than us, well, so much earlier. College pa lang in love na si Rizza. So whenever we go out, we always reserve seats for 7 people. Part na ng group si Carlo, un nga lang wala sya kausap kasi walang ibang lalaki. But we always see to it that he feels welcomed and “pogi” whenever he is with us. 

    This wedding is not really a surprise; this is the sweet realization of love’s dreams and promises. But the date June 18 is the surprise! Grabe, May lang sinabi sa amin ni Rizza that they are getting married today. Tulala kami lahat, after matulala, ayun, nagpanik na. Ang daming dapat asikasuhin… But the OC in Rizza had seen to it that all preparations had been taken cared of na.  But still, it would have been a wonderful feeling for us, her friends, if we had helped her somehow. It is too demanding to organize such a grand event. Aside from that, we were given limited time to prepare for the shower, the gift, etc, pati pagdidiet. 

     On your shower, I have written this on that pink paper. And today, I want to remind both of you again of this verse:

1 John 4:18a There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear…. 

    Carlo and Rizza, I know you two had gone through a lot already. But this time, it will be different. Some things may be more difficult, but I’m sure surpassing them will be more fulfilling too. You are both blessed of being able to grow with each other for the past years and more blessed now that you will be able to cherish each other in a very special way. I am a hopeless romantic, and I just believe that true love with God’s blessings can move mountains.

    Fear nothing because you have each other. Be hopeful for good things because God is just amazing.

    Carlo, as I texted you after the announcement, I am at peace because I know you will take care of my friend like nobody can. Always make her smile. Wag mo hayaang magkulong sa CR. Hehe

    Rizza, my heart is smiling with yours. And I just know there will be more good things to come. You have been a strong girl, and I know you will be a great wife and a good mother. You will be stronger with Carlo at your side. At wag kakalimutan, andito lang kami lagi para sayo.
